Coulisse CAL 2020 - Part 2

This week, we will be making the square pictured below as part of the Coulisse CAL. You will need to make 9 of these squares this week - they are exactly the same stitches as week 1, just involving colour changes this time. Enjoy!



USEFUL INFO (for whole CAL)


Skill level: Intermediate

Yarn used: DROPS Fabel

Yarn quantities:

Yarn A: 615m (3 balls) - variegated

Yarn B: 410m (2 balls) - solid

Yarn C: 410m (2 balls) - solid

Yarn D: about 25m

Suggested colour combinations:

Combo 1: Yarn A: Blue Sea Print, Yarn B: Rust, Yarn C: Turquoise, Yarn D: Off White

Combo 2: Yarn A: Guacamole Print, Yarn B: Mustard, Yarn C: Apple Green, Yarn D: Off White

Combo 3: Yarn A: Pink Dream Print, Yarn B: Pink, Yarn C: Grey-Blue, Yarn D: Off White

About the yarn: 4 ply; 205m per 50g ball; 75% wool, 25% polyamide,

Tension: Each finished square should measure 8 cm x 8 cm

Hooks used: 3mm

Hints and Tips: Make sure your keep a loose tension when working waistcoat stitch as you will be working into the bodies of stitches.

Abbreviations: This pattern uses English Terminology

st/sts = stitch/stitches

dc = double crochet (US single crochet)

ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

tr = treble crochet (US double crochet)

fp = front post

bp = back post

yo = yarn over

P (+ number) = picture number on grid

Special Stitches:

Waistcoat Stitch (wst): Insert hook between the ‘V’ created by the 2 vertical strands of the st below, yo and complete as for dc.

Spike stitch (sp st): Insert your hook into the skipped stitch of the row below, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops

Double back post dc (dbpdc): Back post dc around post which already has a bpdc around it. Dc should be placed under original bpdc not on top of it.


PATTERN


With yarn A make a slip knot (P1), 4 ch (P2), sl st in first st to form ring (P3).


Round 1: 1 ch (does not count as st), dc into ring (P4), (2 ch, dc into ring) 3 times (P5), 2 ch, sl st in first st (P6).

(4 dc, 4 ch-2 spaces)


Round 2: (do not 1 ch throughout )*wst in first dc (P7), (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space (P8)* rep from *to* 3 more times, sl st in first st (P9).

(4 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Round 3: Wst in first 2 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 3 sts *, rep from *to* 2 more times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next st, sl st in first st.

(12 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Round 4: Wst in first 3 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space,  wst in each of next 5 sts *, rep from *to* 2 more times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 2 sts, sl st in first st.

(20 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Round 5: Wst in first 4 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 7 sts *, rep from *to* 2 more times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 3 sts, sl st in first st.

(28 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Round 6: Wst in first 5 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 9 sts *, rep from *to* 2 more times, (dc, 2 ch, dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 4 sts, sl st in first st.

(36 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Do not fasten off but carry yarn up the back of your work (P10)

Join yarn B in first st of the round.


Round 7: Wst in first 6 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 11 sts *, rep from *to* 2 more times, (dc, 2 ch, dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 5 sts, sl st in first st. (P11)

(44 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Rejoin yarn C in first st of round


Round 8: Wst in first 7 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 13 sts*, rep from *to* 2 more times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 6 sts, sl st in first st. (P12)

(52 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Fasten off yarn C


Rejoin yarn B


Round 9: Wst in first 8 sts,* (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 15 sts*, rep from *to* 2 more times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, wst in each of next 7 sts, sl st in first st. (P13)

(60 wst, 4 ch-2 spaces, 8 dc)


Fasten off yarn B
