Coulisse CAL 2020 - Part 4

This week, we will be making the square pictured below as part of the Coulisse CAL. You will need to make 10 of these squares this week. Enjoy!



USEFUL INFO (for whole CAL)


Skill level: Intermediate

Yarn used: DROPS Fabel

Yarn quantities:

Yarn A: 615m (3 balls) - variegated

Yarn B: 410m (2 balls) - solid

Yarn C: 410m (2 balls) - solid

Yarn D: about 25m

Suggested colour combinations:

Combo 1: Yarn A: Blue Sea Print, Yarn B: Rust, Yarn C: Turquoise, Yarn D: Off White

Combo 2: Yarn A: Guacamole Print, Yarn B: Mustard, Yarn C: Apple Green, Yarn D: Off White

Combo 3: Yarn A: Pink Dream Print, Yarn B: Pink, Yarn C: Grey-Blue, Yarn D: Off White

About the yarn: 4 ply; 205m per 50g ball; 75% wool, 25% polyamide,

Tension: Each finished square should measure 8 cm x 8 cm

Hooks used: 3mm

Hints and Tips: Make sure your keep a loose tension when working waistcoat stitch as you will be working into the bodies of stitches.

Abbreviations: This pattern uses English Terminology

st/sts = stitch/stitches

dc = double crochet (US single crochet)

ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

tr = treble crochet (US double crochet)

fp = front post

bp = back post

yo = yarn over

P (+ number) = picture number on grid

Special Stitches:

Waistcoat Stitch (wst): Insert hook between the ‘V’ created by the 2 vertical strands of the st below, yo and complete as for dc.

Spike stitch (sp st): Insert your hook into the skipped stitch of the row below, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops

Double back post dc (dbpdc): Back post dc around post which already has a bpdc around it. Dc should be placed under original bpdc not on top of it.


PATTERN


With yarn C (P1), 4 ch (P2), sl st into 4th chain from hook to form a ring (P3).


Row 1: 1 ch, (1 dc (P4), 2 ch, 1 dc) into ring (P5), turn. 

(2 dc, 1 ch-2 space)


Row 2: 2 ch, skip first st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, 2 ch, skip next st, sl st in turning ch of row below, turn.

(2 dc, 3 ch-2 spaces)


Row 3: 1 ch, dc in ch-2 space, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-2 space, turn. (P6)

(4 dc, 1 ch-2 space, 2 ch-1 spaces)


Row 4: 2 ch, skip first st, dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space, 2 ch, skip next st, sl st in turning ch of row below, turn.

(4 dc, 3 ch-2 spaces, 2 ch-1 spaces)


Row 5: 1 ch, dc in ch-2 space, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-2 space, turn.

Row 6: 2 ch, skip first st, (dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st) twice, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) twice, 2 ch, skip next st, sl st in turning ch of row below, turn.

(6 dc, 3 ch-2 spaces, 4 ch-1 spaces)


Row 7: 1 ch, dc in ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) twice, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) twice, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-2 space, turn.

Row 8: 2 ch, skip first st, (dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st) 3 times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 3 times, 2 ch, skip next st, sl st in turning ch of row below, turn. (P7)

(8 dc, 3 ch-2 spaces, 6 ch-1 spaces)


Fasten off C. Join B.


Row 9: 1 ch, dc in ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 3 times, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 3 times, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-2 space, turn.

(10 dc, 1 ch-2 space, 8 ch-1 spaces)


Do not fasten off Yarn B but carry up the side of your work. Join Yarn C.


Row 10: 2 ch, skip first st, (dc in ch-1 space, 1 ch, skip next st) 4 times, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 4 times, 2 ch, skip next st, sl st in turning ch of row below, turn.

Row 11: 1 ch, dc in ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 4 times, 1 ch, skip next st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc) into ch-2 space, (1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-1 space) 4 times, 1 ch, skip next st, dc in ch-2 space, turn.
